Chloe makes her arrival

Our little one decided to make her arrival 2 weeks early via c section on Thursday, July 2 2009 at 4:38pm. Chloe Renaye Salmon weighs 8lbs 11oz and is 19 inches long. We have been home from the hospital for one week, and have loved every second of our new life. I had no idea how much love I could have for her.

Everything happened so fast. I went in for a regular check up on Thursday morning, and advised the Dr. that I was not feeling her move as much as usual. They ran a stress test on her and in a 30 minute time frame they did not catch any movements from her. Her heart beat was steady but the Dr. sent me over to the hospital for an ultra sound. They ran the ultra sound for another 30 minutes and there was still no movement. They sent me upstairs to labor and delivery to be monitored for a couple of hours.

David and I were starting to freak out but knew that at this point we were in good hands. The Dr. immediately admitted us and told us that we were having this baby today. My mom was in AZ and we barley had time to call our family. The Dr. gave us the option to be induced and try to go through labor natural, but we would take the risk of her crashing. This was one of the hardest decisions we ever had to make, but we knew for the safety of the baby the c section was the best option. Once we made our decision, we were in the operating room within 10 minutes. We were not even able to tell our family what was going on.

Going into the operating room was terrifying for us both, but the second I heard my baby screaming, it was all worth it. Chloe came out very healthy and chubby, kicking and screaming. Daddy got to cut the umbilical cord, and was able to spend her first moments with her. My recovery has been difficult, we stayed in the hospital for 5 days, but I could not be more happy. Having our daughter has been the best thing that has ever happened to us.

So now we have been home for a week, and everything has been going great with the exception of breastfeeding. Unfortunately, due to the c section, my milk took a long time to come in. In the mean time, we had to supplement with formula and the bottle, and now she wants nothing to do with breastfeeding. It has been very upsetting but I know I have tried everything . I have met with 4 different lactation specialist, spent endless hours trying to get her to latch, and everything elseI possibly could do. We have not given up yet, but I fear the worst. She is currently 8 lbs 2oz and the pediatrician would like to see her back at her birth weight by Thursday. Either way, we will do what is best for her and her health.

David and I love being parents, and have had so much fun staying home together taking care of our little girl. We have had so many visitors and tons of food this week! Chloe is definitely loved! Thanks Grammy for staying with us and helping us through every step of the way. We love you!!

On a side note, we finally got our new car 2 days before I went into labor. We got the Acura MDX and love it!! Here are 2 pics of our baby, we lost our camera at the hospital so I will upload more photos soon.

I am so happy that Chloe made her arrival safe & sound! She is beautiful and such a blessing for your family.

I know how dissappointed you are about nursing, but remember that Chloe will be a perfectly healthy & thriving baby no matter how she receives her nutrition. You are a fantastic mommy and Chloe is one lucky baby girl!

I want to come meet her, but I want to give you guys time to relax and get into a routine. But when you are ready for round 2 of visitors let me know! Also - if you need ANYTHING I am available anytime. (even just to vent to... I know how overwhelming everything can be..haha!!)

P.S. - Landon & I want a ride in your new car!!! I love the Acura! ;)

Congratulations on your sweet baby girl Devyn! I know exactly what you went through with the c section, it happened to me too with the first. I remember how fast everything happened and how scary it all was, but the birth of your little girl eclipses everything and we would do it all over again, wouldn't we?

As for breastfeeding, I know it's tough. If it is something you really really want, don't give up. It could take weeks and weeks, (it took my sister in law 5 weeks and lots of tears, but eventually, there was success) but it is worth it in the end. If the stress is not worth it to you, then that's okay too. She will thrive no matter what and when she grows up no one will ever be able to tell whether she was formula fed or breast fed.
Congratulations again, the best days are when babies are born! Welcome to the club, soak it in and enjoy it it. They are only little for a little while and you can always sleep 2 years from now. :)
